Research

My principal research interests lie in the field of finance and banking, and in particular credit risk, credit rating and credit scoring models. I have identified the currently used procedures in the Egyptian banking sector, and evaluated them. In addition I have applied more scientific methodologies. In particular, I have investigated the predictive ability of genetic programming and neural nets, as well as conventional techniques in evaluating consumer credit in banking sector.

My current and future research plans are to develop further models and tools in credit scoring techniques. Furthermore, the plan is to investigate the association between the scoring models and credit rating of the banks themselves, and credit risk evaluation models in both developed and undeveloped countries.

Additionally, I am engaged in a number of multidisciplinary research work and activities in different areas, such as dividend policy, shipping finance, Islamic banking and finance, capital structure, credit card fraud, exchange rate risk, customer relationship management in banking, Mergers and Acquisitions, E-Banking and value relevance of accounting information.

As an active researcher in finance, I have published widely in international journals, including:

Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance and Management; International Business Review; Expert Systems with Applications; The Journal of Risk Finance; International Journal of Managerial Finance; Journal of International Business Strategy; Problems & Perspectives in Management; Investment Management & Financial Innovation and Banks & Bank Systems.

Research Funding:

£2,000 VC Scholarship, The University of Salford for the following research projects: credit scoring and credit card fraud. Awarded in May 2009.
